Welcome to Cuddly Koala's Blog

Hello all and welcome to my blog, I am Julie and been hiking since a teenager and on family walks before that. I was once very serious about my walking but life changes and I have been away from the hiking scene for 15 years. In 2011 I restarted the interest and will be sharing my adventures with my companion, Lady, she is a Flat Coated Retriever.

Lady and I will hopefully be hiking in the Peak District, Lakes and Snowdonia.

Wistow Park - 3.5 miles

Today started off looking dull and stormy but the weathermen were right the afternoon became mostly sunny but breezy.  Lady and I took the opportunity to visit another local place,Wistow.  Wistow is situated south-east of Leicester and is known for its Garden Centre and Tea Rooms.

We parked the car in the laybye and headed toward Newton Harcourt, we took the footpath heading towards the medievil village and then branched off towards the canal.  We then followed the canal and returned by the road.  The road part was a big mistake, it might be a country village but it was very busy, wouldn't do that part again.  Here are some of the pictures I took...

Foxton Locks - South Leicestershire

Had a very pleasant sightseeing afternoon to Foxton Locks with my disabled mum, we went for a cream tea but the pub no longer does them and then we saw the cafe.  Will have to remember for next time.  Anyway for those who haven't been here are a few pics...

Fosse Meadows 1.7 miles

It was a rather chilly but bright morning, in the country there was a slight frost.  Todays walk took Lady and I to Fosse Meadows, Fosse Meadows is a nature reserve situated between Sharnford and Frolesworth and covers an area of over a hundred acres of meadows, plantations, ponds, streams and wildlife lake.  Here are a few pics...

Bradgate Park - 3 miles

Today my Dad, Lady and I went to Bradgate Park, its a 15 mile drive from us but we haven't been for many years.  My dad is 87 so we weren't sure how far we would go as he hasn't done any walking on hills for a good few years and as we all know walking on the flat is different to hill walking.  Any way we did do some walking up hill but didn't reach Old John.

The afternoon was glorious, we had a combination of sunny spells and cloudy interludes, ideal conditions for walking.  Here are the pics...  Map here
